BegaSchools, which offer in-depth learning opportunities for pupils with special talents in the natural sciences or humanities, linguistic, musical, digital, craft, sporting or artistic areas, have been certified by the Berlin Senate since August 2019. (Bega is part of Lemas<\/a>, a joint federal-state initiative).<\/p>\n

The BegaSchools receive financial support, the so-called BegaFonds. With this you can finance fees for course management, equipment and course materials. More information is available here.<\/p>\n

UNDERSTANDING OF GIFTED EDUCATION AT WMIS – OUR MISSION STATEMENT:<\/h3>\n

In its letter of recommendation for the promotion of talent, the Berlin expert committee bases its decision on a multidimensional understanding of talent. This approach of multiple intelligence assumes that \u201cintelligence is made up of different competencies, which combine to form higher-level skills in the course of the learning and development process. However, not all children and young people can perform equally well in all areas. For this reason, the promotion of talent must be multi-perspective and have an effect on different living environments. It is precisely this multi-perspective understanding of the promotion of talent that we take up at the WMIS.<\/p>\n

Our mission statement already states that the overarching goal of our school is to promote intercultural learning from multiple perspectives and creatively. We see the diversity of our school community and the multilingualism of the children as an enrichment and our greatest resource. \u201cProject-based, interdisciplinary and with the help of creative methods, WMIS students learn to actively discover and help shape the world. In our creative approach, we understand art in a broad sense. It includes not only aesthetic education, but also visual and performing arts, movement and digital arts. The students learn in a multi-sensory, interdisciplinary and holistic way.\u201d<\/p>\n

Art is taught in all classes for two hours per week. Every child receives an art book (also called visual journal or VJ) free of charge for parents when they start school. The VJ are paid from the education budget. The VJs cost about 14 euros each, they are stable and made of strong drawing board and they are supposed to last a while.<\/p>\n

Drawing is done upon suggestion in class or in free time. In this way, documentation is created over time, a kind of portfolio of the topics covered in class. At the same time, the various stages of creation show how individual artistic concepts and strategies develop. Experimentation and testing should be carried out and the progress made should be documented.<\/p>\n

The art book should last at least one school year.<\/p>\n

If the book from the previous year is not yet full, the children will only receive a new book after it has been completed for ecological and economic reasons.<\/p>\n

Of course, the children can also work in it at home, but they should always be brought back to the school bag. The VJ’s are an essential part of art classes and are used almost weekly. The VJ is one third of the overall grade of the students. It is therefore important for evaluation reasons that the children always have their art books with them.<\/p>\n

If a child fills the art book within a few weeks, then they have not understood the purpose of the book.<\/p>\n
